Well, let me start by saying that this book in way out of the genre that I usually hold to when purchasing and reading new books. So, I'll have to say that I'm extremely impressed by this book and it has actually convinced me to purchase more novels within this type of genre.

The Dirty Secret is a great novel that really grabs your attention from the get-go and really maintains that grip throughout its entirety. I love the characters and their development throughout the process of the main plot line. It made for some interesting character conversations and stories, as well as some interesting, and sometimes funny scenes late in the book.

One thing that hits you right off the bat is the sexuality that maintains a key role in one of the main character's story line. It's rather blunt and "in your face," so to speak, which I like rather than just dancing around the idea and being subtle about it like most authors are. Mr. Wolfingbarger makes no bones about the concepts of the sexual existence in politics; as we have seen as of late in the political realm that we are used to seeing exploded by the media. It truly does give you the perspective of a scandalous relationship from both sides of the situation and allows the reader to see just what can be gained from being involved in such a scenario.

Humor and love are two other key components showcased in this particular novel. Again, two main characters find themselves meeting and working together again after a once failed love attempt. Again, this makes for great character conversation and plot development. The humorous aspects are held within my personally favorite character Sheriff Vaughn of Pleasants County. While being the strong silent type, he offers up a true comic relief to the serious action taking place at times. His secrets are soon reveled in a rather exciting, yet still humorous way nearing the end of the novel.

Again, I thoroughly enjoyed this book that provides so much bang for the buck. Never have a read a novel that contained so many different literary aspects and storytelling lines/plots. Romance, adultery, deception, cheating, murder, and political aspects all tied into one. Some of the legal banter between characters can be daunting at times but, it's merely a small part of the larger picture; without it, it would be hard to follow some of the story line and the events leading to the ultimate actions of the book.

Good read when u get pass all theological. Characters are good and believe.ble nice. Romance.thrown.I'm.to.make the character. Believable enjoyed the novel
I thought it had a little bit of a slow start, but then Brent seemed to "find his voice" and the story took off. Kind of read like it was over-edited at first. Characters were well developed and differentiated, and the story was fast paced, clever and engaging. Extremely well-researched and realistic. Can't wait for the sequel.
I have to give this book the highest marks in all respects. Very well written with something happening almost all the time. Dirty politics with twists and turns will keep your interest and might even give you an uneasy feeling (especially with the Presidential election only days away).
For the most part, I loved this book. The story is engaging. The characters are believable. There's a lot of twists and turns that kept me turning the page, wondering what would happen next. My one issue with the book is the sheer number of characters and who everyone is. Another reviewer commented that they wrote out a list, and I wish I had done the same. It would have made following this book a lot easier.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. As a native West Virginian, I have rarely come across books featuring West Virginia. It has made me homesick for my beloved state! Well written, plausible storyline & engaging characters round out this fast paced political thriller. Well done Mr. Wolfingbarger, well done! Look forward to reading many more of your books in the future. Now, I have to recommend this book to all of my friends who still live in WV. GO GOLD AND BLUE!!
The authors descriptions of the people and conditions in West Virginia is four square. I am thankful that it is a work of fiction and not reality because the picture that is painted of the power held by local county political officers is all too true. I can't imagine the election of a president being determined by one or two of these people. Then again they probably aren't any worse than the individuals in our US congress.

Story is fast paced, maybe too much so, but certainly a good yarn. It is not the great American novel, but not bad for a West Virginia boy. Recommended.
As America prepares to go to the polls, Brent Wolfingbarger's novel gives tremendous insight into the Electoral College and its impact on presidential elections past, present, and perhaps future. The sometimes arcane process is brilliantly explained as it is woven into a political maze that leaves the reader in suspense. The patches of the author's political quilt come neatly together at the book's conclusion, but not before the reader is drawn into raw state politics and the lives of fascinating political figures; the characters that speed this story forward present a very real picture of politics at local, state and national levels and the dangerous lines that should not be, but too often are, crossed. This is a novel that has intrigue, mystery, and human involvement that ranges from unbridled ambition to sexual excesses. Where it truly is different, however, is the manner in which Mr. Wolfingbarger leads us through the detail of this run for the presidency; he informs as he entertains, giving us a juicy novel and a political education in a manner that cannot be denied. It' a great read anytime, but especially as a landmark election nears.
